Rates/fees: $3,000 based on 1 x 10 Hour Call Breakdown: A guy in his late 20s who is free-spirited and wild at heart. He is rugged with a couple of days growth and doesn't take life too seriously. He's got the feel of someone from stressful corporate world who suddenly decided he needed a seachange/adventure, packed his bags and went for it. He should be attractive and aspirational. Notes: He's just woken up so he needs to look a couple days unshaven at the casting. Sleepwear ie. white cotton T & pyjama pants/boxers are a good idea.

Breakdown: Two attractive, intelligent, stylish and aspirational girls. One could be eurasian or slightly exotic looking. They most likely work in a creative industry and are vibrant with strong senses of humour. Personality should be expressed in the clothes they wear. They are progressive and take pride in how they look. Still, both should be laid back and easy going...not arrogant.
Notes: Dress for the casting is summery and expressive of the character's personality. Stylish and vibrant.

Breakdown: A couple in their 40s, perhaps internationalists on hiatus, who are full of energy and life. They appear successful, culture seeking and sophisticated yet not afraid to take life by the reigns. The male should be refined with a slight edge, his wife slightly younger than him. She's educated and dynamic. Notes: They've just been to the theatre so dress is smart casual with an upper class edge.

A Huge Hub for Australian Film-makers

With Dare 2 Audition and Screenworks based in the Byron Bay shire, we get to hear about lots of local opportunities for actors and film-makers, although we are an Australian wide service.

Byron Bay is a huge hub for professional producers, screenwriters and various industry professionals, who also reside in the shire. With the community strongly supporting the arts, the local film industry has been developing at a rapid pace.

Local Emerging Producers Attachment Program

Local member Justine Elliot recently launched the Screenworks Producer Attachment Program for emerging producers. The intern-ships will create employment and professional development opportunities in film, television and multiplatform productions in the Northern Rivers Region. Four local production companies working on major productions will each take on an emerging producer over a six week period and train them in the skills of producing.

The production companies include Every Cloud Productions with Fiona Eagger and Deb Cox who recently produced East of Everything. Blue Seas Films with Robert Wright, about to launch a feature documentary called Going Vertical and membe productions with Cate McQuillen, who has just completed the exuberant dirtgirlworld which is currently on the ABC TV, CBeebies in the UK and CBC in Canada.

Screenworks is still exploring a range of possibilities for the forth production.

The emerging producers will also have the opportunity to present their own production idea to the senior producer who can offer guidance and advice on the direction of the emerging producers project.

Screenworks is calling for expressions of interest from emerging producers who are at a point to take advantage of this opportunity. Formal applications for this program are available at www.screenworks.com.au

With the International SAE college also based in Byron Bay, this shire is a Mecca for the arts.

MAA Screentest Workshop Feedback

Cain was one of the winners of our recent screen-test bonus with Melbourne Acting Academy, and below is the feedback he sent us.

"just wanted to let you know how the screen test work shop went for me, i was able to meet several other actors and the winners from the competitions. It was good to see the paradigms of all the actors there, as they were truly diverse in their approach towards their professional careers.

The screen tests were great to really be able to see two different perspectives on how the casting directors approach their auditions.

I learnt alot more and was able to apply the feedback i got to enable me to truly hone in my skills as a professional the best thing about the screen tests was being able to have a copy to take home of my auditions so i'm able to critique myself and see from the cd's perspective and use it to make me a better actor.

Casting - Female Lead Filming Byron Bay April - Paid Work

German director filming in Byron Bay (Northern NSW) urgently requires female with British accent for lead role in directors debut Feature film. "SUNSET STAR" shot in Byron Bay, Australia, filming for 3 weeks in APRIL!
The character is about 26, shy, slim, dark hair (or blond). A beautiful mix of a artistic intelligence - alternative type with style. She works as a producer for BBC and carries a dark secret around. Andreas has written, directed and financed the film as well as plays the lead male.

A hitch hiker story about a once Rock Singer who travels and runs into his soul mate...Its a serious project which was partially shot already in Jan/Feb for. 6 weeks in Tassi, Vic. and SA. It will be a very heartbreaking film at the end!

"The Devil's 6 Commandments" Feature
Currently in the final stages of post-production is a new action film shot in Sydney, The Devil's 6 Commandments, which revolves around six revenge stories that intertwine with one another. A number of D2A actors were cast in this production. Watch out for Nathan Bowen as Vincent the Poison, Holly Greenstein as Melissa Pike & Shara Hill as Blondie Rosie.

At the centre of the film is the character of Nina who after being brutally raped by thugs is persuaded by her step brother to track the perpetrators down and torture them. During their revenge mission, Nina and her brother encounter a rogue cop who helps their cause, a homophobic multi-millionaire and a priest with a dark past.

National Short film Comp Tackling The Drug Issue
A new national short film competition invites budding and first time filmmakers to get creative in tackling drug issues affecting young Australians.

Supporting the Australian Government’s 2010 National Drugs Campaign, the Face Facts Short Film Competition asks young filmmaking hopefuls how they would warn their mates of the risks associated with taking ecstasy.

Helen Perris had auditioned for a smaller role listed on D2A, in this production. (#2625 - Casting Children, Female & Couple 25-45 - New Childrens TV Show Pilot) The producer contacted her this week and invited her to audition for a much larger role, and has landed the gig. Congratulations Helen.
