Interview with Matt Norman - Producer "Scab Girl Asylum"
posted on Tuesday, June 15 @ 20:15:02 EST

One of his most candid interviews yet, Wingman Pictures’ CEO shows us through the eyes of a filmmaker, the ups, downs and secrets in Film industry.
Q: Matt, it is a true pleasure. Tell us a bit about yourself and what the past five years have been like for you? A: My name is Matt Norman. I am a writer, director and producer and CEO of Wingman Pictures film production company in Australia.
The last five years of my life and my career have been the hardest I’ve ever had to deal with. Most people think that it would have been great until they hear the true nature of what it’s like being raped by an industry built to protect you. I started making SALUTE in 2002 to honour my uncle Peter Norman. Two weeks before it’s completion and ready for Peter to see it, he died tragically from a heart attack. Normally that would be hard enough to handle but when all those people surrounding me realised I had the only film ever made with all three men involved in the famous black power salute the sharks came out looking for blood.
At this time I had a finished film I funded, all on my own, edited, graded and completed without the help of anyone to get it post produced. I ended up hooking up with another company who meant to come on to help raise funds for the several hundred thousand dollars it would take to buy the rights for all the Olympic archive material. I did that and that’s literally where my hell began. I know now to do research and go with my instinct when it comes to partnering up on the funding side of a film.

NSW Film Office $25 Mil Pledge
posted on Monday, June 07 @ 21:19:11 EST
|
|
By Emma Brown
The NSW government has unveiled $25 million in new support for the local screen industry in an effort to attract new production to the state.
The funding will comprise $20 million in screen incentives to attract large-scale production to NSW and $5 million for Screen NSW’s Production Investment Fund to support local productions.
It comes as the level of production in NSW remains depressed due to tough economic conditions and the high value of the Australian dollar, which has stymied the level of international productions shooting in Australia.

By Morgan Hind
Screen Australia has rejected claims that it is approving film production budgets which undervalue the work of post-production houses and endangering the future of the local industry.
It comes several months after eight sound post-production companies, led by major local player Soundfirm, wrote to Screen Australia expressing concerns about the depressed state of the industry.

Accidents Happen - Post Film Discussion with Gina Davis
posted on Friday, March 26 @ 20:56:39 EST
|
Accidents Happen is a wickedly funny and surprisingly
moving fable of family, fate and misfortune in American suburbia. The
manicured lawns of 1980s New England imply an order that simply doesn’t
exist for the Conway family, headed be razor-tongued Gloria.
Youngest son Billy has been a witness to a series
of tragic accidents, including one that fractured his whole family.
Always the good boy, Billy takes up with the neighbourhood troublemaker
in acts of delicious delinquency in a world already spinning out of
control. The ensuing collision of guilt, truth and self-discovery may be
just what his family needs to move on.
Please join us for a
post film discussion with Oscar winner and star of ACCIDENTS HAPPEN
Geena Davis.

the island of Guadalcanal. (Click here to read Ken Tucker’s assessment of last
week’s first installment.) I spoke with exec producers Steven
Spielberg and Tom Hanks a few weeks ago about the $200 million
production, including why you won’t see any more naval battles, what
helped to ring up the production’s mammoth price tag, and what it was

Mia Wasikowska - "Alice in Wonderland" Star's Journey
posted on Monday, February 22 @ 17:51:27 EST
|
WERE someone to
write a how-to guide to becoming a star, they might base it on Mia
Wasikowska's story.
At 15, the disillusioned dancer from Canberra decided to hang up her
ballet shoes and pursue acting. So, after googling some agents and
hounding one into taking her on (because she'd heard you needed one to
work in film and TV), she landed a role in the now-defunct hospital
series All Saints.
So far, so predictable. But this young star was destined to shine
brighter. After a few outings in local films such as Suburban Mayhem
and Rogue, the schoolgirl was whisked off to LA.

DON'T MISS - Syvlia Plath - The Girl Who Wanted to Be God - Book Now
posted on Friday, January 15 @ 20:54:46 EST
|
The Original version as played in Athens comes to Melbourne! It received a standing ovation in Athens and was hailed as a theatrical tour de force by the head of BBC radio drama. The Girl Who Wanted To Be GOD is a witty and poignant journey through the life of American poet Sylvia Plath. Kneeling on the brink of death, Sylvia embraces the pivotal moments of her life. Drawing on Sylvia’s poems, letters, journals and prose, The Girl Who Wanted To Be GOD is lyrically physical and powerfully dramatic theatre. Sylvia struggles to combine the role of perfect writer, mother and twentieth century genius.

"Daybreakers" Creepy Vampire Feature Filmed in Australia
posted on Sunday, December 20 @ 20:55:10 EST
|
Daybreakers was filmed in QLD and we submitted a number of Dare 2 Audition actors for some of the smaller roles in this feature film.
In the year 2019, a plague has transformed most every human into
vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the fractured dominant
race plots their survival; meanwhile, a researcher (Ethan Hawke) works with a covert band of vamps (Willem Dafoe, Claudia Karvan) on a way to save humankind.
Daybreakers is written and directed by Australian brothers Michael and Peter Spierig, who previously directed a 2003 sci-fi horror film titled Undead. This was shot in Australia in late 2007 and has been in post-production since. Lionsgate is bringing Daybreakers to theaters on January 8th, 2010 next year.

Cultivating Talent - Straight out of school!
posted on Monday, December 07 @ 17:29:47 EST

In casting, we're like personal shoppers for directors and
producers. We listen to what they want and how they work and try to
find the best fit to fill the need. If you're chosen to come in,
that means we think you have a shot. I want you to be good. I'm
absolutely rooting for you.
I found Kelsey; I did not cast him. But the boys in "School Ties"
and many of the other actors I've cast and who became big names
were just very talented people. You find these people when they're
out of school or very young, and you can just tell that they have
so much talent. You just hope you can find a project that can
support them. The projects have to be right.

"Quiet Someones Getting A Job" Listening at an Audition
posted on Monday, December 07 @ 17:14:55 EST
|
Film and television are reactive media. The next time you're
watching a TV show or movie, notice that the actors listen and
react more than they talk. It follows, then, that hiring decisions
made in auditions are based heavily—at least 50 percent—on what
you're doing when you're not reading your lines. Too many actors
believe an audition is all about their lines. But while they may
read well, they're not going to get the job if that's all they've
prepared for. Then, when they don't get the job, they obsess over
how to improve their reading rather than how to improve the quality
of their listening, their silence, and their reactions to the other
character's lines.

Zac Efferon From HSM to Me & Orson Wells
posted on Tuesday, December 01 @ 15:08:23 EST
|
Zac Efron tips up at the hotel on the Sunset Strip with a half-eaten apple in his hand and a script under his arm. The symbolism seems apt. The young actor as modern Hollywood Adam, tempted by the knowledge of riches and fame.
I wonder if his girlfriend, the young actress Vanessa Hudgens, gave him the apple. His agency, often cast as Satan, certainly gave him the script. Efron is a little breathless and seems distracted. He sits and orders a hot black tea, but quickly disappears to make a phone call. Every eye follows him. Tousled brown hair, big sunglasses that hide his $10m baby-blues, a threadbare T-shirt, faded jeans — nothing can make anonymous one of the most famous young faces in Hollywood.

The Perils of Shooting in a Shoe String
posted on Tuesday, December 01 @ 12:03:46 EST

THE last thing you want when shooting an edgy, low-budget black
comedy on an ultra-tight eight-day schedule with no margin for
error is rain. So, naturally, that's what God sends. In
buckets.
The kind of rain filmmakers like is the type that shoots out of
a pressurised tank on their cue. But this deluge is slowly turning
the Newport Railyards into one large, unfilmable puddle. It's not
quite what director Dee McLachlan had in mind.

The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Miller, who said that "Fury Road"
— the upcoming "Mad Max" sequel's title — would make New South Wales in

Why Don't Australian's Watch Australian Films - Metroscreen

don’t watch Australian films. With only a handful of non-film industry
people in the audience [we counted six hands raised in response to this
question] this event was somewhat of a watershed moment. We may not
have solved the problems but we provoked and pushed the conversation.
